How we use your data
- To run Hogr: logging meals, estimating calories and nutrients, tracking your progress against your goals, and showing your Today, Calendar and insights screens.
- To personalise it: building your Food Persona and suggesting meals that match your tastes, habits and goals.
- To improve Hogr: making our food recognition and nutrition estimates more accurate, fixing bugs and designing new features. Where we can, we use data that has been de-identified or aggregated for this.
- To support you: answering your questions and sorting out problems.
- To keep Hogr safe: preventing fraud and abuse, and protecting our users, our systems and our rights.
- To talk to you: sending service messages, such as reminders you turn on or important changes. We only send marketing messages if you agree, and you can opt out at any time.
- To meet legal obligations: responding to lawful requests and complying with Indian law.
We process your personal data on the basis of the consent you give when you create an account and use features such as the mic or camera, and for other legitimate uses allowed by law. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see Your choices and rights). Hogr may not be able to work without some of this data.
Voice, photos and AI
Hogr only uses your device’s microphone when you tap the mic to log a meal or ask a question, and only uses your camera or photo library when you choose to add a photo. You can turn these permissions off at any time in your phone’s settings and keep using Hogr by typing.
Some features use artificial intelligence, including services from carefully chosen third-party providers, to turn speech into text, recognise food in photos, estimate nutrition and write suggestions. These providers process your data only to provide their service to us, under contracts that require them to keep it secure and confidential.
Calorie and nutrition figures in Hogr are estimates. They are not medical advice. See our Terms of Use for more on this.
Where it is stored
Your data is stored on secure servers run by our cloud providers. Some of our service providers may store or process data outside India. When that happens, we make sure the transfer is allowed under Indian law and that your data is protected as described in this policy.
How long we keep it
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active, so your history, insights and Food Persona keep working.
If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days. Copies in our backups are removed within a further 90 days. We may keep some information for longer where the law requires it, or where we need it to resolve disputes, prevent fraud or enforce our terms.
If you do not use Hogr for an extended period, we may contact you and then delete your account in line with Indian law.
How we protect it
We use reasonable security practices to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls that limit who can see personal data, and regular reviews of our systems and providers.
No system is perfectly secure. If a personal data breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as required by law.
Your choices and rights
You have the right to:
- Access a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it.
- Correct or update data that is wrong or incomplete. You can edit most of it, such as your meals, goals and profile, directly in the app.
- Erase your data. You can delete individual meals in the app, or delete your whole account from the app’s settings.
- Withdraw consent at any time. This does not affect processing that happened before you withdrew it.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or are unable to.
- Complain to us about how we handle your data, and if you are not satisfied with our response, to the Data Protection Board of India.
To use any of these rights, use the options in the app or email support@hogr.in from the email address or mobile number linked to your account. We may need to confirm your identity first. We will respond within the time required by law.
You can also turn off microphone, camera, photo and notification permissions at any time in your phone’s settings.
Children
Hogr is meant for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the date at the top of this page, and if the changes are significant we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
